I've seen the ponies stroll right down the beach and try to rummage through picnic baskets. This is the best beach in the area. The National area is more primitive than the State. Boat ramps, tons of nature, all primitive. Pavillions for picinics... great bird watching, a bird observatory tower. I've seen numerous Bald Eagles here. Created from nine farms the area has been managed for migrating and wintering waterfowl since 1943. Self guided tours maps are available at the entrance. To get here... make a right off of Rt 54 before Uncle Wiggles (about 4.5 miles from the beach). Weave and wind your way back until you get to Rt. 364 Sussex Cape
HenlopenNorth side of Rehoboth, fee area during the season. Nice beach, primitive. The Seaside Nature Center offers recreational and environmental education programs year round. Call the nature center at 302-645-6852 or 302-645-8983. Biking and nature. Delaware's largest park. The park is an old revitalized WWII military base located at the mouth of the Delaware Bay. Observatory towers, bunkers, and gun placements still exist. Rising above the area is the "Great Dune" towering at 80 feet! Swimming and guarded beaches are available. There is hiking along interpretive trails, fishing and camping too. Offering bay and ocean beaches, and Gordon's Pond Wildlife Area featuring a saltwater lagoon where
endangered Piping Plovers exsit, there is lots to do. Call the

IslandNorth side of Fenwick Island and south of South Bethany. State park with nice
facilities, concession stand during the season. Surfing, dogs ok
etc... nice beach. This is on a barrier island, actually same as
OC, but you wouldn't know it! North of OC but south of Bethany.
The Atlantic on oneside and Little Assawoman Bays on the other.
Everything from surfing and fishing, and great swimming. There
is a sailboat rental across the road. Access to 4-wheeled
vehicles with permits. Indian
River Inlet and Delaware Seashore State ParkIn between Bethany and Dewey Beach Delaware. Multiple facilities, camping etc....not exactly the most scenic, there are some other little road side state parks along the highway in this area that maybe more appealing to you, also bay side areas for wind surfing access. Swimming and sunbathing at its best, along with camping fishing, clamming, crabbing, windsurfing, and sailing. Also visit the nature trail at Burton's Island (located here). Maps are

Hook National Wildlife RefugeWith an 8,800 acres available of freshwater and tidal marshes, ponds, croplands, grasslands, forests and four hiking trails, you'll keep busy. Fishing, boating, canoeing, along with seasonal hunting. This area was created in 1963 to preserve coastal wetlands. A new office and visitors center is open 7:30 am to 4pm Mondays to Fridays. Plum Island Nature PreserveOn the south end of Broadkill Beach, and extending to Roosevelt Inlet north of Lewes, this barrier island remains primitive. Two miles long and 129 acres makes this an excellent beach combers walk. Access to 4-wheeled vehicles with permits. call (410) 250-0125 for more info. Not really a park but a small walk way with observation binoculars to view Assateague Island across the inlet. About as far south as you can get with out getting wet. 2nd and 3rd Street Parks Hard tennis courts (new), basketball, ball field, skateboard park, small play area. Come down and play hoops and get rad! 4th Street Area Bayside. Not really a park, but a cool place to hang out and take a walk, sort of like a mini board walk along the bay. Good place to take a bike ride in South OC. 28th Street Area Bayside.. small neighborhood park. Enclosed chain-link fence area to help monitor the rug rats. Mallard Run Recreation area at 61st Street Great tennis area, OC's tennis pro and staff available. Six courts, lights two open racquetball courts, shuffleboard, vollleyball, horseshoe pits. Little Salisbury Park at 94th Street Small kids park and play area, tennis courts, basketball. The bounciest rims in town! Check out the Art League next door. Northside Park and Recreation Complex Large beautiful area and the site for concerts in the park and the OC Winterfest. 58 acres, baseball diamonds (beautiful), great walkways for roller blading and running. Picinic area, kids play area. Two full sized indoor gynasiums. Town sponsored. Private Campgrounds
