Ocean City Maryland drowning.

 Tuesday, September 14, 2004

Unfortunately as the summer comes to an end and with only just a day or so of the lifeguards official close to the season, a Silver Spring, Maryland man was found floating face down in the water.    Robert Elmer Lill, 65 years old,  swimming 125 feet off 142nd street was retrieved by a lifeguard and transported Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin Maryland.

Often during the end of the season with reduced lifeguard staff swimmers are encouraged to swim near the lifeguards that are on duty.   Unfortunately this often requires a person to walk several blocks to be under direct supervision of a guard on duty.    With beautiful fall days and warm sea temperatures the temptation to venture into the ocean by the inexperienced, out of shape, or elderly leads to disaster.

Water Safety, Rip tides, and currents.
