Timothy Surfrider Organization.. why should I join... I keep reading about great things that they do but that then I hear all they are really into is getting money from the little guys and using their political presentation for their own self interests of the individual Chapter members.. I even heard of one Surfrider meeting held behind closed doors not open to the public... |

I wouldn't give them any of your money. Go to their meetings and participate in some of their activities and get a feel of what is going on. There has been, or seems to be, some controversy about the organization. A lot of the activities they "do" or say to organize are already in practice by other organizations. In previous years they have been known to be very "clicky". If you read their mission statement it is to increase membership.. I wonder if this means "get money" as opposed to increase awareness. Organizations like the Cheseapeake Bay foundation (or similar to that name) have been responsible for many great projects. In California where SF started (as I understand it) the beach scenario is quite different than in our community. The oceans and surrounding beaches where polluted by the close proximity of storm drains etc.. here the push of SF has been in the bays and to try to organize surfing interests along the coast to open up surf beaches. Many issues have been resolved by the city and through many efforts of the local surfers from years past as the town evolved. Many issues concerning surfing that Surfrider is trying to address in the current environment along Ocean City's coast stems from the fact that they are basically grommets to the surf scene here. Trying to gain favor with young surfers through naivety with what and how the community has worked to gain the current surfing position in the town. |

I wouldn't give them a dime... they run around trying to improve "surfing" for Ocean City Maryland while not knowing what it is all about to live and work in Ocean City. They are a bunch of "ringers" from DC and Baltimore |
